about my prints

I prefer to adhere to conventional photographic techniques. All of my images are shot on film and optically printed by me in my personal darkroom on conventional photographic materials. I do not utilize digital cameras or photoshop in any of my standard photographs. I simply love the look and feel of film and darkroom printing, as well as the ability to authentically maintain a direct physical connection to the original scene.

color photographs

All of my color photographs are printed on high gloss conventional silver halide polyester base papers, that is very similar in feel and character to Cibachrome (Ilfochrome Classic). While Cibachrome has unfortunately been discontinued, I utilize a unique darkroom technique to print directly from the original color positive slide in the darkroom. I am able to control the contrast using pin registered masks made from contact black and white negatives. Properly displayed, these color photographs will last a minimum of 75 years.

silver gelatin black and white photographs

Perhaps the most well known and loved methods of printing, the silver gelatin printing process has a rich history dating back to the 1870s. This is a classic darkroom method of printing that produces rich, detailed black-and-white prints with an incredible depth not to be replicated by digital inkjet printing popular with many digital photographers. No printing method has the radiance and depth of a finely crafted black and white silver gelatin print. Nothing.

All of my black and white prints are printed personally by me in my darkroom on silver gelatin fiber paper and processed to archival standards, which means they will last for generations, granted they are displayed properly.

I have done my absolute best to represent my images here as faithfully as I can. However, there is no substitute to viewing a silver based image in person, properly framed and lit.
